Quenington Jewel Box

Quenington Jewel Box

In 2015 I was invited to design something based on the shape of a small round building with a conical roof at Quenington Old Rectory for their biennial craft exhibition. This is the result; it's a little collectors' vessel for precious items or jewellery. On the left of the photo is the box with its leather lid, on the right you can see the lid taken off and the interior tray lifted out. The tray sits halfway down inside giving another storage space beneath.
The drums were made in layers of Walnut and Oak by Dave Green at Sitting Firm, and the leatherwork is by Carla and Jeremy Bonner. Both the main drum and the lift-out tray have hand-stitched leather dividers. The interiors and handles are hand painted in an orange-coral colour.

We made two of these boxes, one was sold, I kept the other but I think it's time for it to go.

Dimensions : 32cm high x 18cm diameter.
